Still, that doesn’t stop me from cursing my entire existence every time I put lipstick on, and I can only imagine I am not alone in this plight. So, after a lot of testing and generally infuriating the girls at the MAC counter, I’ve finally found two decent dupes for the holy grail that is Lip Kit by Kylie.

MAC Cosmetics Lipstick in Whirl and Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Morning Coffee
I have to hand it to the lovely lady at the MAC Counter for helping me out with this one. Those girls hear people wanting to replicate Kylie’s lip kit all day, and they know just the perfect matte finish shades to get the job done. She suggested Velvet Teddy, a favorite of many, but I wanted something with more earth tones for my skin. She brought me Whirl and I was in love with the color, and helped me debate between lip pencil shades until I finally settled on Morning Coffee. In hindsight, Velvet Teddy probably would have been a better color match, and I’ve even been seeing people wearing it as a dupe for Dolce K online, but texture and finish wise, it’s pretty on point. I will definitely be returning for Velvet Teddy, but until my next paycheck, this Whirl/Morning Coffee combo will certainly do.

Note: I applied Urban Decay’s 24/7 Concealer Pencil in NSA like a balm all over my lip and blended with my finger before applying the lipstick to keep the color true to shade. This also makes brighter colors pop more.
Low-End
NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Istanbul
This one was a little pink for me, but makes a nice dupe for Kylie’s Koko K shade. It applies like a gloss and takes a minute or two to dry to a matte finish, but I was impressed with the staying power this little tube packed. I got a good six or seven hours without a touch-up out of this, and for the price, it was definitely worth it. I didn’t use a lip liner in this photo or when I wore it because it wears great on its own, but I would recommend Revlon’s ColorStay Lip Liner in Blush.
